Health and build information on the German Shepherd Dog

If purchased from the right breeder your German Shepherd’s health overall should be excellent. German Shepherds are a sturdy breed with a muscular frame and elongated body. A well proportioned dog and very strong for its size. It bit is among the strongest only second to a Pitbull. The head and body should be propionate with a slightly rounded forehead. The ears are wider at the bottom pointed up once mature and facing forward. The nose should be black and elongated. The eyes should be dark brown and not protrude outward from the forehead. The gap between the eyes should be slightly lesser then the width of the mussel.  The tail should be bushy and long enough to touch the ground while standing. The tail should hang down while the dog is at rest. The German Shepherd had a duel layer rough coat with a thick underlining This allows the dog to be comfortable in most climates.

As with many larger dogs German Shepherds are prone to hip dysplasia. Before purchasing a German Shepherd ask to see the mother and father. Play close attention to their gate as they walk. Look for any signs of abnormal walking. Bloodlines that have been inbreed tend to develop issues at a younger age.
